The origins of Skottorp go back to when Halland was Danish territory. In 1663 Skottorp was bought by the royal court secretary Frans Joel Örnestedt. A palace-like castle was designed for the spot by Nicodemus Tessin, the same architect who designed Drottningholm Palace in Stockholm. In May 1680 it was the venue for the wedding between Swedish king Carl XI and Danish Princess Ulrica Eleonora.
The facades, two towers, hall and stairways have largely been preserved from that time. In 1813 a new owner Peter Möller transformed the house in the fashion of the time – Empire – and employed the famous architect Carl Fredrik Sunblad. Thus Skottorp also presents the best preserved Empire interiors in the Nordics.
The castle was carefully renovated from top to toe by the current owners in 2018-23 to preserve the history and finery while introducing timeless luxury and comfort.
The Skottorp park is famed for its beauty, and its rare trees including a tulip tree and Sweden’s tallest sycamore tree. It even has a lake where wildfowl swim. Nearby are protected beech forests and a beach at the seaside. See also (link to
